Scientific Illustration

My current practice involves working from observation in the form of scientific illustraation. I am currently enrolled in a class that allows me to spend time at the Field Museum in Chicago, where I am getting many of my current subjects from.

SUE and Whale Skull Study

A Snowy Scene
Three cardinals sitting on branches, two male, one female. Inspired in part by my grandma, whose favorite bird was the cardinal. Colored pencil and white ink on toned paper, 2024.

Insect Studies

Graphium Cordus
A fairly simple drawing of a Graphium cordus butterfly. Includes testing colors on the top right, which I normally try to do on another page. My goal was to aim for a depiction of the butterfly in a more “natutal” pose compared to what is normally seen in museums. Graphite, colored pencil, and white ink on paper, 2024.

Figure Study (Bronze)
Based on one of several bronze statues in the Field Museum. Completed over the course of a little over one and a half hours, done in one sitting. Graphite on paper, 2025.

Eastern Swallowtails
A project depicting two Eastern Swallowtail butterflies, which were abundant in my area growing up; the bottom has a color morph that makes its left side black. Mixed media; colored pencil and watercolor paint, 2024.

Greater Snow Goose - WIP
