A lifelong connection to science and nature has always drawn me to the beauty that nature creates. I’ve always enjoyed museums and galleries that display a variety of artifacts and specimens, often making crude drawings or taking low-quality photos of the things I found interesting. As I’ve gotten older and have had access to better, higher quality materials, I’ve continued to explore what nature brings to life. In my own practice, prior to having access to more facilities, I primarily focused on aquatic life, lepidoptera, and the environments they live in. Since having the opportunity to investigate more animals, I have begun branching into other subjects, including dinosaur fossils, and hope to continue to expand my body of work.
My current focus and interest lies within scientific illustration and finding ways to accurately depict subjects. I work primarily in graphite and/or colored pencil, though I want to incorporate more mediums into my images. While I currently am making art from observing pinned insects, my hope is to branch into drawing from live subjects. I strive to create drawings that give an accurate, lifelike appearance to subjects regardless of how they appear when I observe them.
